Learning objectives describe the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (or beliefs) (often noted as KSA) that students should have gained by the end of their educational experience, whether that experience be their academic program, a course, or a learning module.
Often these are described as representing 3 domains of learning: the cognitive domain, the psychomotor domain, and the affective domain. The cognitive domain represents the knowledge the learners gain; the psychomotor domain represents the skills learners gain; the affective domain represents the attitudes or beliefs learners gain.
For each domain, taxonomies have been developed to help objective development. These taxonomies can be used to create learning objectives by aligning the level with the verb selected. They can also assist in defining an assessment that measures that objective. Many taxonomies exist for each domain so those provided here serve as a small representation of the available taxonomies.
