Assessment of Student Learning at UConn
What is Assessment?
UConn is known for providing an excellent academic experience for its students. Assessment of student learning objectives plays a crucial role in maintaining the high quality of education for which our academic programs are known. To that end, academic administrative units and departments are working together to shape learning objectives and assessment activities to support continuous program improvement.
Deleted: The goal is to create a simple, sustainable process that leverages existing structures and resources. Programs receive individualized support as well as broader professional development opportunities to help with the work. This process aims to continually advance student success within a defined framework that supports flexible and differentiated approaches defined by each program.
Assessment Cycle
Assessment is the process of gathering and discussing information from multiple and diverse sources to develop a deep understanding of what students know, can do, and believe as a result of their educational experiences. The process culminates when assessment results are used to improve subsequent learning. Assessment of student learning begins with meaningful and measurable student learning objectives, followed by a gathering of direct and indirect methods of assessing students on these learning outcomes. Finally, information from this assessment is reflected on and used as part of the continuous assessment cycle.
